Reading a Book

It's not often I read a book that gives me this much inspiration, and, I also don't usually read memoirs or biographies, but I'm so glad I came across this one. The journey that Charmaine has gone through is quite impressive; taking everything that life can throw at her, staying strong, and in the end rising above it. From growing up, going to a new school, poverty, bullying, embracing motherhood and so on, really a great, inspirational story.

This was an inspiring and powerful memoir. I am all about girl power and I love how this story empowers. It is a painful glimpse into some really hard things and how the author used determination, positive thinking and ability to change the scene to change her story. As the founder of The Mean Girl Extinction Project, I know all to well how bullying can affect someone and often the outcome is so damaging and sometimes, even literal death. I will be adding this book to our resource list on our website because I think it's so important to read how other are able to overcome and show they too can overcome. Great Job!

This journey is an amazing one. Charmaine, writing in her native style of English, gives an account of her life that will change the perspective of our hardships. From our homeless having access to running water at shelters and electricity, to how our countries treat their poor so differently. I highly recommend giving this read.

The book is very powerful and an intriguing story. I found it hard to put the book down after I started reading it. It’s also very informative. This book is raw truth, your truth 'thank you for being so transparent and honest. I was excited to read it before it dropped. So when I finally got it in my hands, I couldn’t put it down. I am normally a chapter by chapter reader so that I can really digest and process the content deeper, but after the first chapter I couldn’t put it down because waiting to find out what’s next would’ve been torture for me. So I binged it.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book! Charmaine captures the reader from the first line. Her story is so intense, yet inspiring. It leaves the reader feeling energized and as if they too can rise above adversaries. The book is packaged in such a way, it makes for a easy read. It just keeps you wanting more and more! Excellent job, charmaine!

As a Jamaican myself, I can totally relate to much of what the author talks about in her book. I am proud of her and her struggle and am in awe of her and how she molded her life despite setbacks that would have made many other people give up.

This was an inspirational and honest account of a remarkable woman; her trials, dark moments, and success. Well written, a throughly honest and open account of her life. The author lived in real poverty (wondering where her next meal would come) and not only survived but became successful, through hard work, faith, and determination. If this book doesn’t inspire you, I don’t know what would.
